Understanding fractions

Zara and Aysha looked at how to share 3 apple tarts with four people. They knew that each person would get a half and that was the same as 2 fourths [quarters] and the last tart each person would get one fourth. All together each person would get 3 fourths of a tart each. Well done girls with your explanation.

 It's amazing how working with chocolates makes sense of fractions!!!
The problem today: "If I have 4 kit-kat fingers how will I share them equally with 6 people."
 Charlotte, Emily and Yvon broken the kit-kat into four fingers, they halved three fingers and divided the last finger into thirds and then sixths. Girls what will the answer to how much of the chocolate kit-kat did each person get?

These groups divided each finger into thirds and then shared them equally amongst 6 people. What proportion of the kit-kat did each person get? Is it the same answer as the first group?

Elections 2014

 Nature's Way have worked hard to research information to support their policies. Great team effort. Xing the leader of the party is ready to deliver tomorrow!

The Bright Kiwi's have campaigned well with their advertising. Their policies are clearly outlined and they have been very supportive as a party.


 The media team have done an amazing job of interviewing the party leaders and the filming will be presented tomorrow Friday before the seniors get to cast their votes. They also kept their board up to date with the latest information for people to view and read.

Learning about weight

Exploring how 1kg of rice is made up of 1000gm. 

Finding 1kg of clay and then dividing the 1kg of clay into 2 x 500g blocks without weighing. After 3 attempts to find equal amounts explain what strategy was used.


The see-saw problem. Using a balancing scale created from a ruler and a block the children were required to use a bolt and balance the scales at the other end with a number of objects. Recording using diagrams and looking for a pattern the children wrote an explanation of what they noticed.
